How to keep your gym clean and tidy? Tips and new habits to adopt!

As you may know, keeping your space properly clean at all times may increase your membership sales and secure client retention by making your Customers Happier and Healthier.

Be aware! competition in the fitness industry is fierce – Having a clean gym is a basic must-do for any gym owner! Winter is coming so are flu viruses and germs you do not want to share nor catch. Here’re some tips for you to prevent germs from spreading in your gym.

Adopt gym Rules
You need to enforce new policies to be followed by your members, so you can implement hygiene practices and educate your members with some standard behaviours.

You may this way avoid unnecessary dirt and make your cleaning procedures easier:
  • Do not allow your customer to eat in the facilities so you won’t need to pick up the crumbs constantly.
  • Ask for each of your customer to bring along a towel to use when working out on machines.
  • Stop grime at the door by putting entryway rugs between each division of your gym.
Clean properly your equipment
In many places, it has become usual for customers to clean the machines after themselves with a towel. Although this may apparently wipe down the machine, it does very little to kill germs and prevent the spread of bacteria from one machine to another. And while customers may help you keep the machines clean, it's for a matter of fact not their duty.  So, make sure your cleaning crew sanitize each machine, weight and bars regularly.

Choose carefully the right floor
Choosing a good floor is crucial when it comes to cleaning your space. A floor with no toxic components and an easy-to-clean surface will make your cleaning crew’s life easier, mark our words! Either with a steam cleaner or a simple cloth/mop, you’ll be able to remove sweat, grease and odors much faster if you have a good quality and suitable floor. So, weigh up quality, cost as well as the cleaning time cost against each other when choosing your floor!

Set a cleaning routine and stick to it!
After setting a cleaning routine, follow it correctly. Define the time (+ frequency) it will take you to clean your space daily and weekly. For instance, a mid-day cleaning will allow your evening classes to have a fresh and clean space to work out after the earlier classes. Make sure you vacuum frequently and remove any impurity in between times.

To ensure that your space is as functional and attractive as possible to your customers and potential future customers, cleanliness must be your top priority. Keeping your space neatly clean is critical to the health and satisfaction of your athletes and for the reputation of your gym.

Management should therefore regularly inspect that all cleaning procedures are being followed and the equipment used properly. This will greatly help to increase your sales, the lifetime of your machines and encourage long-term member retention. So, be conscientious when it comes to you cleaning process - show your members you care!
